![]() ![]() It’s fitting that you worked with Blue Note for your first jazz album. With that in mind, the reason jazz was always so appealing is because it is so limitless. I wanted to make a jazz album, so I made it, though I don’t plan on making strictly jazz records. Jazz will probably influence whatever I’m doing in the future, but moreso, I see this album informing the themes or contexts I bring to whatever is next. If you listen to some of my earlier stuff, there are elements of me playing the saxophone and other jazz-related sounds. ![]() This album is very much a side quest for me. I wanted to be able to explore the convergence of those spaces without any unreasonable expectations.ĭo you envision yourself incorporating jazz in your future music? There are some songs on there that are very R&B, but there’s also stuff that’s very much in the jazz tradition. So many prototypical R&B dudes end up trying to make a jazz album. It was so much fun that I was “okay, I’m gonna make a jazz album.” I wanted to give some deeper meaning to it as well. I had just finished up doing music for Godfather of Harlem, where I recorded 15 straight-up jazz songs. I wanted to be able to explore the convergence of those spaces without any unreasonable expectations.”ĭid you specifically want to make a jazz project or did that end up happening organically? “There are some songs on there that are very R&B, but there’s also stuff that’s very much in the jazz tradition. Working with Blue Note on this helped me to step into a different direction, and I was excited to explore that path. It wouldn’t make much sense for my fans to just be like, “Oh, this is a new Cautious Clay album” because it sounds so different from anything I’ve ever done. I’m also presenting this as a jazz album. I used some early compositions I created when I was a kid too. ![]() For instance, I don’t usually do live drum recordings. I was recording KARPEH in a very different way. How did your approach to KARPEH differ from past projects like Deadpan Love or your earlier Table of Context and Blood Type EPs? You’ve been making music for nearly a decade now. I got some of my favorite musicians together to record the different pieces of instrumentation that I had prepped ahead of time. I usually record my music at my home studio, but I went into a live recording studio to finish everything. It was six days of recording, but also, obviously, several years of preparation. Listeners will probably be like, “what’s going on here?,” but with that, I was trying to mimic what it feels like to be on a psilocybin trip and have a bunch of different voices in your head talking to you as you’re going through it.Ĭan you walk me through the timeline of assembling the album? ![]() There’s like a skit called “Take a Half” on the album that is an amalgamation of my dad, my girlfriend and my aunt talking about all these different things. I would talk to them and then write about my own personal experiences and relationships and how those have developed over the years, and then reduce it down to something that felt like it captured the conversation. I talked with them about different situations that they were in, how they grew up and the house my dad was raised in. I did a ton of interviews with my family members. How did you go about transforming those conversations into compositions and lyrics? What did those talks with your family look like? Intertwining with that are my own relationships and conceptions of intimacy and ideas around solitude. I’m outlining how my grandparents affected my family, starting with my parents, and then how my parents shaped me. It’s a summation of my family’s cultural identity through the lens of both generations of grandparents. Thematically, a lot of the content of the album is focused on my life chronologically. What brought about these deep conversations? In conversation with HYPEBEAST, Clay reflected on his newfound embrace of jazz and the process of writing, composing and recording KARPEH.Ĭollaboration is so central to KARPEH, particularly your conversations with your parents, grandparents and girlfriend. It’s fitting a move, given that KARPEH happens to be his first release via the storied jazz label Blue Note Records. For the effort, Clay enlisted a fleet of jazz musicians, including his own uncle, bassist Kai Eckhardt, for vibrant instrumentations intertwining saxophone, soprano, guitar, synthesizer, and electric bass, the last of which he performs himself. The album also marks the typically R&B-leaning Clay’s first full foray into jazz, a genre he was inspired by on his 2021 debut Deadpan Love. ![]() ![]() ![]() As such, it is likely that Pikmin get a majority of their nutrients from food the Onions break down. Pikmin come in several types, each with certain unique abilities (such as resistance to a specific hazard). Through these basic actions, Pikmin can be ordered to carry items or fight enemies, among other abilities. When out of a leader's squad, they can be whistled back into it. Once plucked, Pikmin follow a leader around the area in a squad, and the leader can throw them at objects, as well as dismiss, swarm, and charge them. The player can then get a leader to pluck one of these sprouts. In the main games, Pikmin are created by Onions, which produce them as seeds, which in turn fall to the ground and become sprouts. As the titular creatures of the Pikmin series, they are the main feature of gameplay in all games in the series. Solid phases of iron sulfides principally comprise FeS (mackinawite), Fe 1−xS (pyrrhotite), FeS 2p (pyrite), FeS 2m (marcasite), Fe 3S 4 (greigite), and Fe 9S 11 (smythite). This will provide a comprehensive understanding of iron sulfide nanomaterials and illustrate their considerable potential as novel multifunctional biomaterials in biomedical applications. Herein, we will summarize the types, synthesis and properties of iron sulfide nanomaterials and emphasize their applications in biomedical and medical fields. ![]() Therefore, it is anticipated that iron sulfide nanomaterials will display multiple functionalities and they have great potential in biomedical applications. Importantly, iron-sulfur clusters are important cofactors in many enzymes which serve as active centers for electron transfer in catalytic processes and respiratory chain reactions (Qi and Cowan, 2011). The band gap in iron sulfide is smaller than that of iron oxide, leading to the former having more appropriate electron transfer and conductivity (Wadia et al., 2009 Jin et al., 2017 Zhang et al., 2018). In addition, the phases of iron sulfide in nature include mackinawite (FeS), pyrrhotite (Fe 1−xS), pyrite (FeS 2), and greigite (Fe 3S 4), etc., which exhibit more variability than iron oxide containing only Fe 2O 3 and Fe 3O 4. Since O and S are congeneric elements, iron sulfide demonstrates similar physiochemical properties as iron oxide (Fu et al., 2019). However, iron sulfide nanomaterials have not been comprehensively studied or used in the biomedical fields. Currently, the majority of iron-based nanomaterials are iron oxide which possess excellent supraparamagnetic properties, with catalytic activity mimicking that of oxido-reductases, including peroxidase, catalase, superoxide dismutase, and oxidase (Gao et al., 2007 Liang and Yan, 2019). In addition, recent studies have revealed that these nanomaterials have intrinsic enzyme-like properties (Gao et al., 2007 Xie et al., 2012 Xu et al., 2018), an important form of nanozyme representing a new generation of artificial enzyme (Wei and Wang, 2013 Dong et al., 2019 Liang and Yan, 2019). In particular, due to their multiple functionality and excellent biocompatibility, iron-based nanomaterials are frequently used in the biomedical field, such as bioseparation, biosensors, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), tumor hyperthermia, and drug delivery (Chen and Gu, 2017). The isosurface in the real space for ∇ 2 = 0 was plotted for both iron and chromium, pointing out the local zones of valence shell charge concentration and relating them to the partial d-orbital occupancy of the two transition metal atoms. With the development of nanotechnology (Li et al., 2019), nanomaterials have become a major resource for the development of novel therapeutic medicines and technologies designed to improve human health and the quality of life (Zhang and Webster, 2009 Esmaeili et al., 2020 Wang et al., 2020). Concomitantly, ρ ( r ) and ∣ H ( r ) ∣ at the bond critical points are greater for Fe–S interactions, indicating that the local concentration of charge density in the internuclear region is larger for the tetrahedrally coordinated iron than for the octahedrally coordinated chromium. The Fe–S bond distances were found to be 0.145 Å shorter than the ideal values computed on the basis of Shannon’s crystal radii, much shorter than the Cr–S distances with respect to their ideal Shannon lengths. The topological indicators of the bonded interactions for Fe are distinct from those for Cr. An analysis of the electron density ρ ( r ), its Laplacian ∇ 2 , and the total energy density H ( r ) at the bond critical points was employed to classify all the interactions that resulted as predominantly closed shell (ionic) in nature. Good agreement was found for the topological properties of the system, as well as for the atomic net charges and the nature of the chemical bonds. The experimental and theoretical results were compared. A full topological analysis, followed by the calculation of local energy density values and net atomic charges, was performed using the quantum theory of atoms in molecules. The total charge density distribution ρ ( r ) of the colossal magnetoresistive transition metal sulfide Fe Cr 2 S 4 was evaluated through a multipole formalism from a set of structure factors obtained both experimentally, by means of single crystal high-quality x-ray diffraction data collected at T = 23 K, and theoretically, with an extended-basis unrestricted Hartree-Fock periodic calculation on the experimental geometry. ![]() ![]() The bacon fried up really nice and crispy but as you can see from my pictures that it got a little burned around the edges. I have said this time and again that one of the best products at Trader Joe’s is the uncured Applewood smoked bacon. Having said all that, I found this new Black Forest Ham to be a nice addition to the lineup of bacon that Trader Joe’s current carries. The real thing is super high quality and not something you would find at your local grocery store. Black Forest ham is supposed to be smoked.
